2020 is finally over. But what do the studios, producers and streaming services have in store for 2021?

Here is a medley of what is coming in sci-fi and futuristic books: 6 books under option for TV series.
LA DICTATRICE by Diane Ducret
A dramatic portrait of a West that is collapsing into chaos, and which has found as its new leader a woman with both a hidden agenda and boundless ambition.
TV rights sold at auction to Fox Extended Network (FX). The novel will become an international series.
THE CLEANERS by Ken Liu
A science fiction short story that tells how, in the near future, inanimate objects carry the memories of people’s experiences, and a certain number of the population have the ability to relive those memories by touch.
This sci-fi short story is being developed as a television series for Amazon by The OA writer Dominic Orlando with Orlando Bloom as exec producer.
THE NEW WILDERNESS by Diane Cook
Set in an alternative future world where cities are smog-ridden, this is the story of a group of idealistic men and women who decide to leave their over-polluted city behind to set up a new community in the wild. An imaginative debut novel that explores a moving mother-daughter relationship in a world ravaged by climate change and overpopulation.
Optioned by Warner Bros. TV, for development as a series, with 6th & Idaho executive producing, and Cook adapting.
SIA MARTINEZ AND THE MOONLIT BEGINNING OF EVERYTHING by Raquel Vasquez Gilliland
A Mexican-American teenage girl discovers that her mother was abducted by aliens, and uncovers profound connections between immigration, folklore, and alien life.
TV rights, for development as a television series, sold to Annapurna TV.
A SONG FOR A NEW DAY by Sarah Pinsker
In the Before, when the government didn’t prohibit large public gatherings, Luce was on top of the world. One of her songs had just taken off and she was on her way to becoming a star. Now, in the After, terror attacks and deadly viruses have led the government to ban concerts, and Luce’s connection to the world is closed off forever.
Mulan producer Jason T. Reed is developing a television series based on the novel via his Jason T. Reed Productions.
L’ANOMALIE by Hervé Le Tellier
In March 2021, hundreds of people fly in the same plane from Paris to New York City, and encounter a strange patch of turbulence. Three months later, an identical plane lands in the US, filled with exact doubles of the original travellers.
The US government, alarmed by the sudden appearance of these clones, diverts the plane to a hangar, where its passengers will be poked, prodded, and studied by scientists. When no explanation can be found for their existence, the doubles eventually emerge into the world, and have to find a way to coexist with their originals.
TV rights optioned by 247 Max for a series of 6 to 10 episodes.
